FRESH 2013: ANNUAL SUMMER SHOW

We are delighted to be presenting, for the third year in a row, the gallery's annual summer show. The FRESH exhibition is curated, from an international open call for submissions, by the esteemed collector/curator, W.M. Hunt and Klompching Gallery owner, Darren Ching.

An opening reception with the artists present, will be hosted on Thursday, July 18th, 6pm–8pm.
The exhibition continues through to Saturday, August 10th.

This is an opportunity for the gallery to present work by upcoming photographers, who we would not normally have the opportunity to work with. It's also an excellent platform upon which to alert collectors to five new voices in photography and invest in their photographic artworks–through acquisitions–early in their careers. With this in mind the exhibition has been carefully curated, with each of the photographers well represented, through having several photographs from one body of work included in the exhibition.

An important element of the exhibition is to bring exposure to the photographers and their artworks, to as wide an audience as possible. Therefore, FRESH is expanded across three platforms: the wall, the page and the internet.

In addition to the exhibition at the gallery (the wall), we are working in partnership with BLINK magazine (the page), which has published a feature on the five photographers in Issue #25, July 2013. A long-form interview will also be published on AT LENGTH MAG (the internet), during the course of the exhibition.

Below is an introduction to the five photographers selected from the 300+ submissions received. We look forward to seeing you at the reception and, should you be interested in acquiring a photograph, please contact the gallery. The entire exhibition can be viewed on the gallery website here.

ANTONY CROSSFIELD: JERWOOD DRAWING PRIZE

Gallery artist, Antony Crossfield, has been selected for the 2013 Jerwood Drawing Prize exhibition.

The Jerwood Drawing Prize is the largest and longest running annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK.  The aim of the prize is to promote and reward excellence and talent in contemporary drawing practice. Between 50 and 70 drawings are selected, from approximately 2,000 submissions, for the exhibition at the Jerwood Space (London) and subsequent national tour. The prestigious award names an overall winner with a cash prize of £8,000.

Antony Crossfield has been shortlisted with a drawing in graphite, entitled Lanugo. As our many of our collectors know, Crossfield's photographic portraits of the male figure are inspired and informed by art historical references and conceptual theory. He originally trained as a painter and brings this skill-set and creative process to his photographs. Understandably, there exists a close relationship to his photographic artworks and his drawings, which we're pleased to bring to your attention here.
